Kids In Communication (KIC) Secures £240,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund to Expand Media and Youth Voice Opportunities
Kids In Communication (KIC) is thrilled to announce that we have successfully secured £240,000 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund – Reaching Communities! This incredible support will enable us to expand and develop KIC Radio and our Kicsters Digital Pop-Up Youth Clubs, bringing innovative media and youth voice opportunities to even more young people in our community over the next three years.
With this funding, we will re-open and grow our pop-up youth clubs in Brownhills and Darlaston, as well as introduce a brand-new location in Shelfield, where we already run KIC Radio – a national youth radio station on a mission to amplify the voices of young people. These youth clubs provide safe, creative spaces for young people aged 10-21, helping them to develop new skills, access vital support services, and achieve valuable qualifications and accreditations.
Through engaging in media-based activities, young people will have the chance to explore digital content creation, podcasting, radio production, DJing, and much more. Alongside these creative pursuits, participants will also receive guidance on important topics such as mental health, cost-of-living challenges, employment opportunities, and personal development – equipping them with essential life skills for their future.
At KIC, we believe in the transformative power of digital media to inspire, educate, and empower young people. Thanks to this generous funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, we can continue our mission to engage, support, and equip the next generation with the tools they need to succeed and thrive in an ever-evolving digital world.
"This funding is a fantastic opportunity for us to expand our services and continue empowering young people through digital media," said KIC Chief Executive, Rob Smith.
"Thanks to National Lottery players, we can offer even more young people the chance to develop essential skills for the future and help them navigate the challenges of today’s world."
Nicola Thurbon, Senior Head of Regional Funding (Midlands) for The National Lottery Community Fund, said “National Lottery funding means KIC can empower local young people to make and broadcast content that really matters to them - giving them a platform and stronger voice in their community.
“Society has so much to gain from listening more to young people’s views and enabling them to make a positive difference. We’re proud to turn money raised by players of the National Lottery into game-changing grants, supporting children and young people to thrive.”
We would like to extend our deepest thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund and its players for making this life-changing opportunity possible. We are excited to see how this funding will help us continue to create lasting, positive change for young people in Walsall and beyond.
