England Lionesses are through to the Euro 2025 final after a dramatic 2–1 extra-time win over Italy in Basel.
Italy took the lead in the 33rd minute through Barbara Bonansea, and for much of the match, it looked like England might come up short. But the Lionesses kept fighting.
In the sixth minute of injury time, 19-year-old Michelle Agyemang scored the equaliser - a huge moment under pressure from the young striker. That goal sent the match into extra time and gave England renewed belief.
With just one minute remaining before penalties, Chloe Kelly stepped up. Her penalty was initially saved, but she reacted quickest, firing in the rebound to make it 2–1 in the 119th minute. Relief and celebration followed as England secured their place in a third consecutive major final - a record for any senior England side.
Manager Sarina Wiegman’s tactics paid off once again, with both goals coming from substitutes. Midfielder Keira Walsh dismissed suggestions that England were lucky, saying: “We create our own luck.”
The match drew over 10 million viewers on ITV - the broadcaster’s biggest audience of the year so far. It also amassed over 17 million streams, demonstrating the growing interest in women’s football.
Are the Lionesses ready ready to make history for the Euro 2025 Final against Spain who in the 2023 World Cup final beat England 1–0. The final takes place on Sunday 27 July at 5pm BST, live on ITV1 and BBC One.
England enter the match with an extra day’s rest, which could prove crucial. More importantly, they head into it with momentum, unity, and unfinished business.
