Heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne has died aged 76, weeks after he performed a farewell concert for fans at Villa Park with his Black Sabbath bandmates.
Legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne, known worldwide as the "Prince of Darkness", has died at the age of 76, just 17 days after performing what would be his final concert. The former Black Sabbath frontman passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
The singer reunited with the original members of Black Sabbath on 5 July for one last performance in his home city of Birmingham. The event, called "Back to the Beginning", was held at Villa Park and marked the band’s first performance together in two decades. Despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease, Ozzy performed seated from his iconic "Bat Throne" and delivered a powerful farewell with classics like Paranoid and Crazy Train.
Many fans now see the concert as his goodbye. Just days before his death, Ozzy shared a backstage photo from the show, featuring a sign that read: “The Final Show.”
Ozzy was a pioneer of heavy metal, rising to fame with Black Sabbath in the 1970s before launching a hugely successful solo career. He later became a household name thanks to the hit reality series The Osbournes, which aired on MTV. Throughout his life, his impact on music and pop culture remained enormous.
Tributes pour in from across the world. Black Sabbath posted simply: “Ozzy Forever.” Music legends including Elton John, Metallica, and Rod Stewart have also paid their respects. His daughter, Kelly Osbourne, described him as her “best friend” and quoted lyrics from his early music in her tribute.
Known for his unique voice, outrageous personality, and unshakable spirit, Ozzy leaves behind a legacy that shaped the sound and style of modern rock music.
