England are champions of Europe again after our Lionesses beat Spain in a tense final that ended in a penalty shootout! The match, held in Basel, finished 1-1 after extra time, but England kept their cool and won 3-1 on penalties.
Spain struck first with a powerful header from Mariona Caldentey in the 25th minute. But England didn’t give up. In the second half, Alessia Russo equalised with a brilliant header after a great cross from super-sub Chloe Kelly.
The match stayed 1-1 through extra time, with both teams fighting hard but unable to score again. Spain had more possession, but England’s defence stayed strong, and keeper Hannah Hampton made some big saves.
When it came to penalties, England were fearless. Spain missed three of their shots, and Chloe Kelly stepped up to score the winning penalty - just like she did in 2022. The crowd went wild!
"I’ve always believed pressure is a privilege. When the moment came, I just knew — this is what we train for. I took a deep breath, trusted myself, and hit it. This is for every young girl dreaming on the pitch." – Chloe Kelly, Euro 2025 Final
This win makes England the first senior England team to defend a major trophy outside of the UK. The Lionesses showed real heart, bouncing back from tough moments throughout the tournament.
Formal recognitions:
π Hannah Hampton – Official Player of the Match for her pivotal role in the shootout.
π Michelle Agyemang – Named Young Player of the Tournament by UEFA’s technical panel.
