KIC Radio

Who are we?
KIC (Kids in Communication) is a youth-led organisation dedicated to giving young people a voice, a platform, and the confidence to be heard.
For more than 30 years, we have created opportunities for more than 30,000 young people to share their stories, develop their skills, build friendships, and shape the communities around them. Through creative, digital, and community-focused programmes, we help young people discover their potential and prepare for a positive future.
Our mission is simple:
To give young people a voice and a platform to be heard.
What do we do?
At the heart of KIC is KIC Radio, our volunteer-led youth radio station and content creation hub. Young people gain hands-on experience in radio broadcasting, podcasting, digital media, and content production while sharing stories that matter to them. Alongside this, our Kicsters programme delivers localised digital activities and community-based youth clubs, creating safe and welcoming spaces where young people can socialise, learn, and participate in fun and engaging projects. Through KIC Academy, we help young people prepare for a thriving future by delivering accredited digital courses, qualifications, and practical learning experiences that build confidence, employability, and essential career skills.
Who do we work with?
We work with young people aged 10-18 through Kicsters, and with those aged 14-18 through KIC Radio and KIC Academy, extending support up to the age of 25 for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our programmes are designed to be inclusive and accessible, and we proudly support a wide range of young people, including those who are NEET, receiving Pupil Premium support, young carers, LGBTQ+ young people, migrant communities, care-experienced young people, and those who are home educated. We also provide support for young people experiencing isolation, anxiety, low confidence, poor mental health, or challenges engaging with their local community.
What impact do we make?
The impact of our work can be seen in the lives of the young people and families we support. Many participants tell us that KIC has helped them build confidence, make new friends, improve their wellbeing, and find a genuine sense of belonging. Young people often describe KIC as a place where they feel heard, accepted, and able to be themselves, while parents value the safe, supportive environment and the positive influence our programmes have on their children's personal development, social skills, and mental wellbeing. Through our inclusive approach and dedicated staff team, we continue to help young people overcome barriers, connect with others, and achieve things they never thought possible.
KIC has helped me improve my confidence, given me a sense of belonging, and helped me make so many new friends. The club makes me feel heard when it comes to difficulties and changes in my community. Before KIC, I was more anxious and quiet, but through the support of KIC, I’ve found a place where I can truly be myself, and that has helped me a lot." ~ Courtney (Kicsters Brownhills)
"Throughout the years I’ve been at KIC, I’ve come to feel a sense of community that I haven’t found anywhere else. It was a welcoming place when I joined and has remained that way ever since. I’ve never been very good at communicating with people my age and often struggled with my confidence, but the staff here provided a safe and supportive place for people like me. Overall, I have made new friendships and strengthened existing ones through this youth group. Furthermore, I’ve learned things that I would never have learned if it weren’t for the people at this club." ~ Faith (Kicsters Brownhills)
"Kicsters has provided an invaluable safe haven for my children, fostering both personal growth and key life skills in a place where they can truly be themselves. Through its commitment to inclusion, my daughter has transitioned from being isolated and lonely to becoming a confident peer mentor who assists with activities and supports new attendees in overcoming the same challenges she once faced. The compassionate staff have created an environment where my children feel secure opening up and building positive friendships. Furthermore, KIC offers exceptional support for the whole family, always going out of their way to help where they can. As a parent, I have always felt listened to, valued and effectively signposted to relevant resources." ~ Stacey (Kicsters Parent)
"KIC has been a real godsend for both of my teenage daughters, who have struggled with their mental health and anxiety. They both attend schools in Lichfield and have found it difficult to make friends in the local area. KIC has really helped them build their confidence, develop social skills, and make new friends, especially during the school holidays when they can feel isolated from their school friends. They have enjoyed exploring new activities and now have friendships within the local community. The staff are incredibly supportive and have, at times, even been able to offer me advice and guidance. For us as a family, KIC is invaluable, as it provides the girls with a safe, welcoming environment where they can spend time with their friends and truly feel they belong." ~ Sarah (Kicsters Parent)
Looking to the future!
As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding our impact and reaching even more young people. We are increasing engagement opportunities across our communities, growing our creative offer into music and television production, and building new partnerships that will allow us to bring our programmes to more locations. By continuing to invest in innovative youth-led experiences, we aim to ensure that every young person has access to the opportunities, support, and platforms they need to succeed.
Coming Soon!

As we celebrate 30 years of KIC, we are proud to be entering an exciting new chapter. With the continued growth of our radio, podcasting, and content creation programmes, we are expanding our KIC Studios offer to provide even more opportunities for young people to develop their creativity and share their voices. Coming soon, we will be launching KIC TV and KIC Music, creating a multi-platform youth media network where young people can explore broadcasting, music production, video creation, podcasting, and digital storytelling. This expansion will provide even more pathways for young people to build skills, gain experience, and showcase their talents.
