About KIC Academy:

KIC Academy is a FREE 6 week programme giving young people aged 15 - 24 hands‑on experience in media, music and digital production, delivered from our KIC Studios in Walsall.

Our programmes support all young people across the Midlands by developing confidence, communication, teamwork and digital skills - all through real creative projects. The programme provides personalised, flexible creative experiences that meet the needs of a wide range of learners, including NEET'S, SEND and those who benefit from practical, hands‑on environments.

Joining KIC Academy gives you the chance to learn new skills, work towards qualifications, and gain industry insight directly from real creators, producers, and industry professionals (BBC, Bauer Media Group) who actually work in the fields you’re interested in. You won’t just watch - you’ll get hands‑on, try things out, build confidence, create projects you can be proud of, and gain qualifications at the same time.

🎛 DJ’ing – Learn to mix, scratch, and build your own sets using pro‑level decks. Take control of the booth and find your sound.

🎹 Music Production – Make beats, produce tracks, and experiment with digital tools to create music that reflects your style and energy.

📺 TV Production – Get behind the camera, work with lighting and vision mixing, and create your own studio‑floor shows.

🎙 Radio – Present live, run features, interview guests, and become one of the voices of KIC Radio.

🎧 Podcasting – Plan, record, edit, and publish your own podcast series. Your ideas, your voice, your platform.

KIC Inspire - Access our accredited volunteer programme and achieve qualifications via AIM Qualifications -  Level 1 Award and Level 2 Certificate For Working in Digital Technology Industries.

The 6 Week Programme

Week 1 (35 Hours): Introduction & taster sessions; Explore all areas of media production through hands-on sessions in radio, podcasting, DJ’ing, music, and TV. This week helps you discover your interests and build the confidence to choose your creative pathway.

Week 2 (35 Hours): Radio Production; Learn how live radio works by developing presenting skills, planning your own show, and using professional studio equipment. By the end of the week, you’ll take part in delivering a live or recorded broadcast.

Week 3: Podcasting (35 Hours); Create your own podcast from idea to final episode, learning storytelling, interviewing, and editing techniques. You’ll finish the week with a podcast ready to share.

Week 4: DJ'ing (35 Hours); Develop your DJ skills by learning to mix tracks, build sets, and perform with confidence. The week ends with you showcasing your own live DJ performance.

Week 5: Music Production (35 Hours); Produce your own music using industry-standard software, exploring beat-making, structure, and sound design. You’ll complete the week with a finished track that reflects your style.

Week 6: TV / Film Production (35 Hours); Work as a production team to plan, film, and edit your own TV or film project using professional equipment. The week concludes with a final screening of your completed production.

Work experience placements; Young people gain meaningful work experience by taking on real production roles, from presenting to technical operation. This helps them build confidence, responsibility, and evidence for CVs and future applications.

Alternative provision; KIC Radio supports young people who may benefit from a non-traditional setting, offering an engaging, practical approach to education. We create a positive environment that re-engages young people through creativity and real-world learning.

Creative digital skills development; Young people develop key digital skills including audio editing, content creation, media production, and broadcasting technology. These skills are essential for both creative industries and the wider digital workforce.
