Whether you're completely new to DJing or ready to take your skills to the next level, KIC DJ Academy will give you the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to perform.
The course is built around practical, hands-on learning so students spend their time behind the decks developing real DJ skills.
Beginner to Advanced DJ Course
The programme runs across 16 weeks, split into two connected 8-week stages. The Beginner course takes students from zero experience through core mixing skills, while the Advanced course develops performance, creativity and recording skills.
Beginner
Weeks 1–8
Week 1 — Welcome to the Decks
Get familiar with the equipment, studio environment, headphone cueing and safe equipment handling.
Week 2 — Understanding the Beat
Learn BPM, bars and phrasing, and discover how to identify effective mix-in and mix-out points.
Week 3 — Beatmatching Basics
Learn manual beatmatching, pitch control and how to use the jog wheels to bring tracks into time.
Week 4 — EQ & Mixing Basics
Learn how low, mid and high EQ work and how to create clean transitions between tracks.
Week 5 — Crossfader & Two-Track Mixing
Put your skills together to plan and perform a complete two-track mix.
Week 6 — Track Selection & Reading a Crowd
Explore set structure, energy flow and how track selection can change according to the crowd.
Week 7 — Effects, Loops & Hot Cues
Add creativity to your mixes using effects, loops and performance features.
Week 8 — Beginner Showcase
Finish with a 10–15 minute mix, receive feedback and progress towards the Advanced course.

Weeks 9–16
Harmonic Mixing
Learn musical keys and smoother key-matched transitions.
Scratching & Turntablism Basics
Develop foundational scratch techniques.
Advanced Looping & Performance Pads
Create custom loop-based edits and use performance features creatively.
Multi-Genre Blending
Learn how to bridge different genres and tempos.
Building a Full Set
Plan and perform a structured 45–60 minute set.
Live Performance & Event Prep
Develop stage confidence and practise handling live technical situations.
Recording, Promotion & Branding
Record a mix and start developing your DJ identity and brand.
Advanced Showcase & Certification
Finish with a 30–45 minute performance and explore progression into KIC Radio and live event opportunities.
